Next-gen sales increase by 50% in convenience

Independent convenience retailers are selling 50% more next-gen nicotine products year on year. 

Data provided exclusively to betterRetailing by TRDP from their estate of 3,100 stores across the UK, demonstrates the consistent growth of vaping in independent convenience stores, as more shoppers turn to local shops for hardware and e-liquids, spurred on by the Covid-19 pandemic. 

Value vape products prioritised by consumers

Other figures show the number of stores stocking next-gen products has also increased, as more retailers identify the potential sales benefits from investing in the category. In November 2019, 2,625 stores in TRDP’s estate were selling next-gen products, which increased by 4.72% in the past year to 2,749 stores.  

UKVIA: The vaping sector in the second lockdown

The growth is even more dramatic when looking solely at retailers that have offered next-gen products for more than a year. There are 2,305 stores that sold next-gen products in November 2019 and are still selling them today. In these stores, sales have increased by 152%.

The top-performing 10% of stores have increased their vaping sales by 1,086% in the past year.
