The supplier has advised a wholesaler it should resume normal production at the beginning of April

UPDATE: Grenade has said it has not ceased production of Grenade Oreo.

In a statement, the supplier said any availability issues were due to high sales, which had exceeded those of its top-selling lines.

Phil Greenhalgh, Grenade managing director, said: “Since launch of Grenade Oreo, sales have far exceeded our expectations, outselling even our bestselling flavours, by a significant margin where stocked. One major retailer sold through in all outlets within seven days.

“Our supply chain is working phenomenally hard to meet the revised volume requirement that is likely to be required by our trade customers, based on our experience to date. There has been no ceasing of production of Grenade Oreo. We thank all of our customers for their support with this launch and patience as we attempt to catch up with the vast levels of excitement and demand.”

Better Retailing has seen correspondence from a leading wholesaler saying that the product, which launched last month, is currently on allocation.

Retailers are currently limited to orders of three cases from the wholesaler, although it said the supplier had advised it would resume normal production of the product at the beginning of April.

Grenade declined to comment.
