Cheese brand Boursin has unveiled its first-ever plant-based alternative product, Boursin Plant-Based Garlic & Herbs, ahead of an early 2022 launch.

The new product comes as 86% of plant-based meals are eaten by non-vegans and dairy-free cheese alternatives are growing faster than cheese.

The supplier is looking to leverage this trend in tandem with the popularity of the Boursin brand to drive sales of the new product.

It will be sold in a 130g resealable format, available to retailers in cases of six, with an RRP of £3. It will be available to retailers nationwide from February 2022, following an exclusive launch in Sainsbury’s this December.

Celina Leroyer, senior brand manager at Boursin, said: “The plant-based market has grown substantially in the past year, and Boursin Plant-Based has been developed following the identification of a gap in the market for speciality options. The launch fuels Boursin’s NPD pipeline with products meeting ever-evolving consumer needs; delivering a brand-new taste experience for those seeking plant-based alternatives to cheese, Boursin Plant-Based delivers the delicious Boursin-inspired taste consumers know and love, without compromising on indulgence and delicious flavour.”
