The Burton’s Biscuit Company has acquired from Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board (“Ontario Teachers'”) by a Ferrero-related company.
Over the last year, Burton’s has generated sales of over £275m, with approximately 2,000 employees across the UK. Burton’s is known for their biscuit range including Maryland aryland Cookies, Jammie Dodgers, Wagon Wheels, Paterson’s and Thomas Fudge’s.
Burton’s was acquired by Ontario Teachers’ in 2013 and has since helped develop the company by continuous investment in the branded, retailer brand, and third-party global brand portfolios, as well as organic initiatives and bolt-on acquisitions.
The Ferrero-related company will take over Burton’s production facilities within the UK. The six sites are located in Blackpool, Dorset, Edinburgh, Livingston, Llantarnam and Isle of Arran.
Following the previous acquisitions of Biscuits Delacre, Kelsen Group, and Fox’s, the Ferrero-related Company expects to expand its product offering in the sweet biscuits market with this acquisition.
Legal and financial advisors to the Ferrero-related Company included Davis Polk & Wardwell, LMS Legal LLP (competition law advisers), and Houlihan Lokey.
Ontario Teachers’ received legal and financial counsel from Kirkland & Ellis and Stamford Partners.
