One Stop stores have gained access to Tesco Clubcard benefits under a trial underway in a ‘small number’ of sites.
Messages for Tesco Clubcard members from One Stop, seen by Better Retailing, reveal that the trial began on 24 April and will continue for ‘a limited time period’. No franchise stores are currently taking part in the trial.
One Stop told customers: ‘”Enjoy more power in your pocket, you can now collect Clubcard points when you shop in One Stop.” The retailer then explained: “One Stop is being trialled as a Points Partner. This is a pilot scheme run by Tesco Stores Limited”
The test allows shoppers to earn Tesco Clubcard points on their purchases when they present their Clubcard, Tesco Bank card or Tesco app at the counter, but does not include Clubcard discounted prices.
A One Stop loyalty scheme is under consideration
When contacted by Better Retailing, One Stop refused to state how many stores were participating in the pilot, how the trial is performing or whether it could be rolled out across its franchise and centrally-owned store estate. The retailer instead responded: “We are currently running a trial allowing customers to collect Tesco Clubcard points at a small number of One Stop stores.”
Better Retailing first revealed One Stop was examining a potential loyalty scheme launch in October 2024. At the time, sources close to the company claimed the launch of a loyalty scheme was teased to franchisees at a conference. They added a trial phase would take place prior to any further rollout.
There are further restrictions on Clubcard use in participating One Stop stores compared to within Tesco’s retail estate. Customers cannot collect points by ‘tapping’ their Tesco Clubcard, Clubcard vouchers cannot be spent and shoppers are also unable to claim for missed Clubcard points after purchases.
