Last month I went along to Atwals News in Derbyshire to meet News UK’s Greg Deacon as he oversaw the transformation of the store’s news and magazines displays, in order to grow newspaper sales.
The project is part of a wider ambition of Mr Deacon’s to “inspire a whole generation of retailers” who have run their stores for decades and are in need of support in modernising their offer – without breaking the bank.
So as well as organising with display manufacturer Bartuf to ensure that the store’s news and mags section was refreshed, he looked at how the whole store worked, ensuring that the flow of categories around the business encourages customers to buy extra items after they’ve picked up their copy of the Sun or Times.
