Walkers rolls on 70th year milestone

A Spar store in Bedfordshire has been crowned the winner of PepsiCo’s recent retailer competition and received a fun day for their customers.

Spar Flitwick attracted customers with stilt walkers, a balloon artist and photobooth, and received decorations from Walkers.

Owner James Sugrue said the event increased footfall and engaged their usual customers.

“We had a lot of families come down to enjoy the activities. We received feedback from several shoppers who said how well the day went and what a surprise it was to be greeted by stilt walkers,” he said.

The competition was promoted on the company’s trade website, Counts for More, as part of the brand’s 70th anniversary.

Walkers is continuing to mark the milestone with a campaign that matches six flavours to the region where it sells above the national average.

The range includes Pickled Onion (Scotland), Tomato Ketchup (The North), Smoky Bacon (The Midlands), Worcester Sauce (South East), Marmite (South West) and Beef & Onion (Wales).

Shoppers can scoop £5,000 every week in an on-pack promotion and the campaign will also be backed by TV and digital advertising in September.

Rachel Holmes, senior marketing manager at PepsiCo, said: “Cheese & Onion, Salt & Vinegar and Ready Salted are firm favourites, but consumers don’t necessarily know flavours such as Marmite and Smoky Bacon have just as much of a loyal following as our lead flavours in certain regions of the UK.”
