Spar loses 22 stores in one year
Spar has lost 22 stores across the UK in the past year, according to the symbol group’s latest trading report. The chain had a total of 2,598 shops in 2018.
Despite the annual decline in store numbers, UK yearly sales grew by 3.6% to €3.3bn (£2.9bn).
Spar International’s managing director, Tobias Wasmuht, said the convenience chain’s UK business is its leading division in Western Europe.
“Spar UK works with great national retail partners such as EuroGarages, which is reflected in the growth of petrol forecourt retailing,” he said.
“Customer loyalty has been growing, partly attributable to the increased strength of the fresh offer in store, the expansion of the Spar own-brand range and also to online loyalty promotions.”
