Co-op ends Ipswich distribution

Co-op Group retailers in eastern England will now receive their deliveries from the company’s national distribution centre in Coventry.

The current Co-op distribution centre in Ipswich is to close in October as a result of the move.

East of England Co-op joint chief executive Roger Grosvenor said: “In July 2017 we announced that we had made a decision in principle to close our distribution centre and join Co-op Group’s national integrated supply chain.”

Its decision to shut down the existing site is part of planning permission submitted to Ipswich Borough Council to demolish the neighbouring Dairy Crest plant at Boss Hall Business Park.

The application by East of England Co-op to build a gym and retail units on the site has been deferred by the council.
