Do you think your staff would accept perks over higher pay?

In this week’s RN poll, 84% of retailers said their employees wouldn’t accept staff perks over higher pay.

The result is poignant because Leanne McGowan and Raaj Chandarana recently told RN that offering additional perks allowed them to supplement wages. Leanne said it would cost her an extra £20,000 per year to raise wages by 30p to the recommended living wage. Perks help her bridge that gap.

But the introduction of the National Living Wage next April will make it compulsory to pay over-25s £7.20. And if large companies like Costa have warned they will raise prices as a result, how will independent retailers respond?

Former Sainsbury’s chief Justin King has already warned the NLW will “destroy jobs”. The ACS wants to know what impact it could have on you, before 25 September. Why not take part in its survey?
