Select & Save quiet over My Local revival following trademark purchase

The symbol group's five-year supply deal with Bestway also ends in 2023

Select & Save has bought the trademark for the historic My Local convenience brand, but has remained tight lipped about whether it will revive the former convenience chain.

According to government documents, the My Local trademark is now owned by AM Convenience, which Select & Save trades under. Services listed under the trademark include retail and catering.

The chain was established in 2015 by Mike Greene after he purchased 140 stores within the struggling M Local convenience format from Morrisons. However, continuing financial issues meant that the brand eventually went into administration in 2016.

Asked about plans for the brand, Select & Save managing director Kam Sanghera said: “The My Local brand was bought some time ago. No decision as yet has been made to reigniting it as a new brand as yet.”

The ownership of the trademark comes as Select & Save’s five-year supply deal with Bestway comes to an end in 2023. More than 200 stores across the UK are supplied as part of the relationship.

Commenting on whether the two plan to continue their relationship, Sanghera added: “We have a well-established relationship with Bestway, who are our valued supply partner, we are working closely to add value for our customers.”

Select & Save has also recently undergone an online rebrand, with the company suggesting it is bringing “a brand new approach to convenience.”

Bestway has been approached by Better Retailing for comment.
