The publisher blamed the 'ever-increasing cost of newsprint, fuel, energy and staffing'

Newsquest has announced cover price rises and retailer margin cuts for five of its regional titles.

From 13 July, independent retailers in south-west England will see cover prices of the Sidmouth Herald, Weston Mercury, Exmouth Journal and Budleigh Journal increase by 10p to £1.

Newsquest has also announced that it will slash retail percentage margins as a result of its term changes.

For the Weston Mercury, margins will drop to 22.5%, while the Sidmouth and Ottery Herald margins will be cut to 21.5%, and Exmouth and Budleigh Journal margins will fall to 19.5%.

The publisher blamed the “ever-increasing cost of newsprint, fuel, energy and staffing”.

A Fed spokesperson said: “The Fed are disappointed with the margin changes.”
