KeyStore ramps up expansion south of the border

JW Filshill plans 200 KeyStore shops

Glasgow-based wholesaler Filshill has actively been approaching retailers in England amid plans to expand its KeyStore symbol group south of the Scottish border.

Retailers around north-east England told Better Retailing they had received visits from the company looking to recruit. One store owner, who asked not to be named, said: “I was approached last month. The rep said they are planning on expanding, so they’re looking to operate in northern England and continue further.

“My shop was approached and they said it could become a flagship site. I’d have to consider terms, but they do sound quite reasonable.”

The company has more than 200 symbol stores across Scotland, with some already operating in the north of England. Its symbol group consists of the standard KeyStore format, alongside a larger KeyStore More brand.

It also has more than 1,600 delivered-wholesale customers.

KeyStore chief sales and marketing officer Craig Brown told Better Retailing that newly appointed members of its retail development team had been “very active” with new customers, and growth in England is a part of its long-term strategic plans.

The expansion plans come as the wholesaler is to move to a new distribution centre near Glasgow airport at the end of this month, designed to boost delivery capacity and support further growth.
