How to get involved with Independents’ Day 2022

Retailers have an opportunity to shout about their success with local communities this weekend

how to get involved with independents' day 2021

Not to be confused with the American celebration of their independence on 4 July, Independents’ Day UK is a campaign that highlights the importance of independent retail businesses across the UK, and is a chance for local shops to engage with their community.

Below you’ll find lots of easy ways you can take part and really connect with your customers.

Get involved

  • Download the Independents’ Day logo for use on your website, social media platforms, and in your shop windows
  • Create promotions or events that tie in with the campaign, and celebrate your localness – make sure you tell your customers! Perhaps you could give shoppers who live in your local town or village a special discount
  • Talk to your customers about what they love about your shop – and how you can ensure they keep coming back
  • Follow and engage with the campaign across social media platforms – using the hashtag: #ukindieday, as well as #shoplocal and #indieretail
  • Work with other local businesses to promote each other – you could create a loyalty card that works across multiple sites. For example, buy a coffee in the local café, and get 10% off your shopping in the convenience store next door
