Upcoming National Lottery operator Allwyn has completed its takeover of Camelot.
The takeover was announced today (7 February). Camelot will continue to operate the National Lottery until the end of the third licence in January 2024. Allywyn will take over the fourth licence from February for a decade.
The completed deal has brought several changes to Camelot’s board and management team, including Sir Hugh Robertson, Camelot’s chairman from 2018, stepping down with Sir Keith Mills assuming his role as new chair.
Former chief financial officer Clare Swindell and former commercial director Neil Brocklehurst have been appointed by Allwyn as co-chief executives to lead Camelot after the departure of chief executive Nigel Railton.
The takeover comes as Camelot had previously opened a legal challenge against Allwyn relating to the takeover, which was dropped in September last year. Allwyn has previously called for more digital investment for lottery products in convenience stores.
