Booker U-turns on £1 coin deposit trollies following customer complaints

The trollies were introduced as a theft prevention measure

Booker

A Makro in northeast England, has U-turned on its decision to use £1 coin deposit trolleys.

Sources close to the Booker-owned subsidiary confirmed that the £1 trolleys were implemented last month at the cash and carry in Washington to prevent a spate of thefts. However, these were shortly removed following complaints from customers.

Several Booker retailers nationwide told Better Retailing they were against the idea of having to pay a deposit to use trolleys, but some did recognise the ongoing issue of trolley theft.

Booker has been approached for comment by Better Retailing.
