Daily Mail and i newspaper publisher Associated News has recorded a £699,000 loss in the year ending 2 October 2022.

Revenues for the company, which also include the Metro and Mail Online, increased 4.1% to £616m, and the publisher claimed its print brands had “increased their market share” by achieving a slower rate of circulation decline.

However, the war in Ukraine, inflation and the consumer-spending squeeze were attributed to Associated News’ failure to turn a profit for the first time since 2012.

A statement in its results said: “Increased cost pressure has adversely affected the profitability of the newspapers.”

The company said “continued cost efficiencies” were ongoing to protect its print operating profits.
