Ambient preserved food company Mutti has launched its bestselling canned 400g Polpa Finely Chopped Tomatoes in a £1.65 price-marked pack (PMP), exclusively in the independent convenience channel.

Mutti Polpa is crafted from 100% Italian sun-ripened tomatoes, harvested at peak ripeness and processed using its patented cold-crushing method. According to the supplier, this preserves the freshness, flavour, and aroma of just-picked tomatoes.

More than five years since it first launched in the UK, Mutti has become the second-biggest ambient tomato brand in the UK, growing volume and value by more than 50% in the past year, per Nielsen figures. This equates to adding £12m to category value in 12 months.

The supplier says now is a good time to stock up on the brand due to the rise in home cooking and premiumisation, coupled with the value perception that PMPs deliver. Additionally, PMP canned goods contribute to small basket missions that drive sales in local convenience stores.

With more shoppers cooking at home and seeking quality ingredients at clear value, this launch gives retailers the perfect way to meet demand and drive basket spend.”

To support its growth plans, Mutti is investing £5m into marketing in 2025.
