Racial discrimination in newsagent window adverts

The BBC reports that newsagents in many parts of London are displaying advertising cards that may be discriminatory. The Equality Act 2010 is specific about the areas of life where discrimination is illegal. These are Age, Disability, Gender Realignment, Marriage and Civil Partnership, Pregnancy and Maternity, Race (including Ethnic Origin, Colour, Nationality and National Origin), Religion or Belief, Sex and Sexual Orientation.

ACAS has a guide that can help you understand your obligations and how to manage this important piece of legislation. Following today’s report it would be sensible to revisit your Equality policy statement and management of these regulations to ensure that you and your staff continue to stay within the law.
