Magazine Opportunity: Absolute Lotus

Absolute Lotus is the ultimate magazine for Lotus owners or fans of the brand

What do you have coming up for Absolute Lotus?

For our June/July 2025, we have a fantastic feature that we’re sure will have appeal beyond our core audience. One of the things Lotus is famous for is appearing in Roger Moore-era James Bond films. Earlier this year, we reunited the stunt pilot, Marc Wolff, from The Spy Who Loved Me with a Bell Ranger Jet helicopter and a Lotus Esprit S1 – both the same models that featured in the famous chase scene the culminated in the Esprit escaping into the sea and transforming into a submarine.

The result was our most dramatic cover shoot ever, combining the helicopter and the unmistakable Esprit in a scene reminiscent of the film. Marc Wolff gave us some terrific insight into the shoot – and the 50 hours of flight required to capture the shots for the scene. We also spoke to Mike Kimberley – who was Lotus CEO at the time – and Matt Becker, son of the late Lotus development driver Roger Becker who drove the Esprit in scenes when the hired stunt driver was unable to drive the car in a suitably spectacular style.

What makes the magazine stand out from the competition?

We are unique! While many other marques, such as Porsche, Volkswagen and Ford, have several magazines vying for enthusiasts’ attention, Absolute Lotus is the only magazine on the newsstands for Lotus owners and enthusiasts. We launched in 2018 and our readership and audience continues to grow.

What should retailers know about this issue to get customers interested?

It’s the James Bond story that will make this issue stand out. Not just the machinery in the form of the car and the helicopter, but also the fact we have spoken to Marc Wolff, the stunt pilot from the film. A former wartime and agricultural pilot, The Spy Who Loved Me was the first film he worked on. Hearing about the inner workings of the 1970s film industry was fascinating, and very different to how things are run in the 21st century.

What kind of customers would be interested in Absolute Lotus?

As well as our core of Lotus enthusiasts, Absolute Lotus also appeals to a wider automotive-led audience. Lotus occupies a unique space in the car market. It is known for innovative, aspirational sports cars that are also affordable.
