How to set up a shop save

Make the most of this service to keep loyal magazine shoppers coming to you

The first step to setting up a shop save is to find the distributor for the magazine in question. Many magazines will be available through your existing wholesaler (likely Smiths or InPost Newstrade). You can check if a title is available by searching for it on the relevant app (SNapp or i-Menzies), or by contacting customer services.

How to set up a shop save if your store is supplied by InPost Menzies

If your store is supplied by InPost Menzies, contact the customer service centre or log onto i-Menzies to make a new shop save order request. This can be done like adding any other title to your store, but specifying that it is a shop save or HND copy will mean that this copy will not be reduced when your supply is reviewed.

InPost Menzies has confirmed to Better Retailing that the customer service team had a refresher on Shop Saves in advance of the Just Ask relaunch.

How to set up a shop save if your store is supplied by Smiths

If you are a Smiths customer, you can order the magazine as normal, but to make sure that this copy is not reduced, you will need to order it as a HND copy through SNapp online.

You can do this by logging into SNapp online and going to the ‘HND management’ section, where you can order new HND copies.

Smiths warns that retailers not using SNapp will need to manage shop saves manually, so be sure to keep an eye on that title and contact customer services if it is reduced.

Setting up a Shop Save for a title that’s not supplied by a major wholesaler

If a title is not available through your major wholesaler, you will need to contact the distributor directly. For most titles, you can find this information by searching for the title on National Title File. When you click on a title, the page will list the distributor, and you can look up that distributor for stocking and order details.

If a title is not listed on National Title File, it is likely a very niche title with either a small-scale distributor or none at all. For these, you will need to search for the magazine’s website and look for instructions on how to contact the distributor or become a stockist.

From there, simply reach out to the distributor and let them know the details of your store and the magazine you are after.
