ABC figures for March show some papers performing well despite overall decline, with profit increases for retailers on several titles.

The Daily Mail and the i both introduced price rises recently. These increased their profitability when combined with significantly below-average falls in circulation than other titles year on year.
The Daily Mail’s Monday-to-Friday edition, which saw a 8.1% fall in circulation from March 2024 to 2025, and a 0.6% fall from February 2024 to 2025, also saw corresponding increases in retailers’ margins of 8% month on month and 10% year on year.

Given how large a proportion of sales these titles represent, these successes meant retailers’ profits on weekday newspapers overall rose by 3% compared to March 2024.
The i saw no decline in sales from February to March, and a 5.9% decrease from March 2024 to March 2025 – the lowest decline of any weekday paper that reports ABC figures. This meant that retailers’ margins from weekday editions of the i were up by 5% year on year last month.
Price rises also meant the average store selling the iWeekend made 8% more in March 2025 than they did in March 2024.
The Financial Times also saw an increase in profitability last month, this time not due to an increase in price, but instead to an increase in circulation, with March 2025 seeing 1.3% more sales of the Financial Times’ Saturday edition than February and 1.2% more than March 2024.
