Dave stood out because he has a clear idea of where he wants to go and a future strategy to get him there. He told his story brilliantly, clearly showing his passion for retail, data and his staff and has thought about who he needs to engage to energise the people in each area of the shop to help him achieve success.
Dave sees customer service as critical to his shop and has high standards to ensure consistency. He strongly believes that getting his shop to the next level stems from being self-critical and being challenged constructively, which is why he was part of a mystery shopper trial programme earlier this year.
His passion for data and processes leads to a breadth of quality across all 12 categories and has meant converting a low footfall section of the shop into an ice-cream parlour which generated huge additional spend over the summer period. Dave keeps on top of trends like protein and spots opportunities like customers that were dieting, and created bespoke point of sale to make it easier for those customers to shop with him.
Over the past three years Dave has used the IAA to make significant changes and it is clear that everything has been brought together to create a forward thinking, fantastic looking convenience shop.
