  1. Isn’t it about time the government took back the decission makeing for VAT threshhold levels from the EU.?

  2. Lynda

The Chancellor – George Osborne at the moment – decides the VAT rate in the UK, not the EU. The EU has nothing to do with it!

  3. the threshold is the amount where VAT starts to be paid, this is decided by the EU.

  4. adrian the THRESHOLD is the amount where VAT starts to be paid, this IS decided by the EU.

  5. Re “The Weekly Poll” – the question is too one dimensional. Of course legitimate tobacco sales will fall once banned in shops. But overall consumption will rise due to contraband and counterfeit cigarettes swarming the market. Tourist area shops will especially be hit as tourists will expect to see cigarettes on display – if they can`t they wont enquire.
