Sheffield retailer Jai Singh has dressed his store with flags, medals and a cardboard stand-up of athletes with faces cut out so that parents can take photos of their children looking like medal winners.
Jai said “We are giving every child who joins in the fun a Cadburys gold medal as a ‘reward’, it certainly has brought a lot of great customer feedback and a smile to the children’s faces!”
On top of this he has bought in a selection of team merchandise to sell, including Corgi Mini Olympic Torches.
The in-store theatre has added a buzz to the store and allowed Jai to push beer, snacks and other promoted lines.
Despite having had a 24 hour Asda open near his store last year he found the added colour in his store has helped to build turnover.

The Olympic standup cutout we bought to add a touch of theatre to our London2012 promotion has had many, many kids and adults have their picture taken and it really has been a focal point in the store and a talking point! Most of all it created a fun factor with both children and adults alike.

well done Jai singh. Your shop with olympic decorations looks awesome. You have to go with the flow and the flow has been Olympics. London has done us proud and Convenience stores around the olympic park have done very well. Plan to do something around Paralympics-equally exciting.

Thankyou for your kind words Chander. We are looking to do something along these lines but a little different for the Paralympics as these are equally as important.
We dedicate a certain amount of floor space to in-store theatre as we feel this not only motivates staff but excites our customers too as they will always be in to see what we are “upto next”.
