Today retail guru Mary Portas published her independent report commissioned by the government to investigate the decline of the high street in the UK and what could be done to revitalise it.
What do you think of her suggestions? Leave your thoughts in the comments below. Don’t forget to vote in this week’s #bRpoll where we ask “Should Mary Portas’s idea for a “national market day” to stimulate local community retailing be encouraged?”

I think the key message that comes out of this report is that there are not easy answers to the high street problem, every community will have take charge of its own solution. The key ingredient is Government action on local planning and a high street first policy.
It is interesting to note that the Australian Productivity Commission published its final report on the Economic Structure
and Performance of the Australian Retail Industry last month. It indicates that UK high street retailer are not alone in meeting the challenge of knowing/delivering shopping communities of tomorrow.
