Hackney retailer Siva Kandiah could only watch on television as his convenience store was torn apart by looters on the night of August 8th, 2011.
Listen to him speaking to Retail Express about what happened, his heartbreak as the business he has built for the last eleven years was destroyed, and hear first-hand a taster of the community spirit that will hopefully help him rebuild.

I am so saddenned for these hard working people for a riot that I don’t understand.
I hope that insurance companies give them an extended period to claim, loans & mortgages have break clauses, business rates are reduced whilst they come to terms with what has happenned as a community.

I was so disturbed by this post and the effect that it has had on Mr Kandiah I have emailed my MP, Nick Herbert the link to this.

So sad, when you work hard and everything goes in front of your eyes.

This story touched my heart. People from the local community have set up a fund for for Siva and donations can be made here: http://www.helpsiva.com/ . They have already raised over £13,000.

OH Siva I am deeply saddened watching the photos of your livelihood taken away from you by mindless thugs.
I wish you the best for the rebuilding of your shop and life.
