Easter is late this year with Easter Sunday falling on 24 April. The official definition of Western Easter is that it takes place on the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after the vernal equinox. This means that it can fall between 22 March to 25 April. This year we have one of the longest selling periods for Creme Eggs and other pre Easter confectionery that happens in any year.
Now at the beginning of February and we have already been selling these important New Year products for a month. This year we have displayed this range of products as we have done in past years and also embedded our range in our confectionery display area. This is a departure from our previous practice and has been allowed because of the extra space we found for the confectionery category last year.
We have been selling around an outer per week though January with the numbers growing as the weeks pass. The question of course is just how many will we sell this year? With nearly four months of the year before Easter it’s got to be a good chance for a record. So I am looking to sell over 1500 this year, an increase of 20% on 2010.
