Naweed Ashraf – Premier Shieldhill, Falkirk

“Success in merchandising is all about providing the right choice for your customers.” This key message from Naweed Ahraf is what helped him increase turnover from £8,000 a week to £22,000 following a major refit that paid more attention to merchandising. Understanding your customers needs is vital, but equally so is presenting what they want in the right way. Naweed explains more:

“If the correct merchandise is in the right place then a shop is set up in the correct way for customers to spend money. For example, it is important to have each product category in a distinct section and the store to be well stocked. Every night I check the shelves and replace what is missing when I go to the cash & carry the following day.

“I don’t display products around the till except for the lottery and chewing gum and behind the counter alcohol, cigarettes and medicine.”
