Harry Goraya – Nisa Local, Kent

2009 IAA winner Harry Goraya considers his shops range as a matter of course. Effective ranging is an essential part of the very best independent shops.

“The advice we receive from our sponsors goes a long way to influencing the range we have in store, but we also observe our competitors and adapt accordingly. We have two local schools nearby and we are encouraging the kids there to come into our Post Office and learn how to deal with members of the public by selling locally-produced vegetables.

“We are closely involved with a number of local charities and are planning to donate food to a Spina bifida charity for its Christmas party. We also donate funds to the Helena Lyons Hospice charity.

“When we are considering the range of stock in each category we call in a manufacturer to assist with a planogram, which usually ensures we stock at least one of the top selling lines in each section. We follow the same pattern across the store.”
