Ushi Vithani – The Front Page, London

Presentation is everything, says Ushi Vithani of the Front Page in Thamesmead.

“We always aspire to operate our store to the standard we ourselves would want to shop in and so we strive to keep our store easily recognisable, clean, well-lit and well merchandised,” he says, displaying the attitude that saw his store listed as one of the finalists in the Shop Presentation category during the 2009 IAA.

“Our shop is located next to a take away food restaurant and so each morning a member of staff cleans the entrance to the shop. At the front of the shop we have a list of services offered and inside the store each category is identified by clear signage, with appropriate material.

“Recently we have also increased lighting by 40 per cent in the store, which has included providing spot lights for magazines. After we moved our magazine section from the far right of the store to near our counter there was a boost in sales of 48 per cent.”
