David Deacon – The Shoulder Shop, Harrogate

David Deacon of the Shoulder Shop in Kirkby Overblow, Harrogate, saw his store win the Shop Presentation category at the 2009 IAA Awards. The Shoulder Shop’s presentation is something that David takes great pride in.

“When it comes to presentation in our shop I have always wanted to do something different,” he says.

“We have a very traditional building, made of stone with an oak beam running through the middle. Our shelving has deeper spacing than normal and it creates a contemporary look, which has a strong visual impact. The store also places a lot of emphasis on detail, so we always have fresh bread in a basket in our deli and maintain good hygiene standards.

“The shop’s appeal is the high standards that we present and often customers, even from those outside of the village say how nice the shop looks.”

  2. What a lovely shop – the photos alone are making me hungry! Great idea to showcase well presented shops so others can pick up tips.
