Rolling stock: Hello moves onto trains

hello-magazineOK! Magazine may have been the first title to barge its way into department stores and Clinton cards, but a trip to the south-west coast last weekend revealed its older, smaller-circulation rival, Hello!, has actually beaten it to a new sales outlet – First Great Western trains. On a trip to the buffet car for a much needed cup of tea, I spotted the magazine on sale for £2 in a Hello!-branded box. Of course, it won’t benefit independent retailers, but it makes perfect sense to extend the reach of magazines from travel outlets to the trains themselves. The good news is it’s unlikely to have an impact on retailers’ sales, and with the staff saying it had been selling well since its introduction, it will no doubt give sales of the title a much-needed boost, meaning readers might visit your store – when they’re not on trains, of course.
